So you’re planning your wedding. Getting value for money is a no-brainer. When talking to different suppliers, some of whom have offers that tempt you to book them … how do you sort them all out and get the best deal? My blog will take you through what to look out for, to get the best value for money.

Of course, you want value for money – who doesn’t! But will you get ripped off? Surely suppliers tack on extra charges because they’re quoting for a wedding, don’t they?

Here’s the thing ….

The wedding industry is in a class of its own.  I believe that wedding suppliers, as folk who genuinely love weddings, tend to go the extra mile. They take extra care, extra time and costs, and attention to detail.

Let’s look at florists, for example.

What sort of service does your florist offer?  The best ones will discuss your vision and preferred flowers at length; visit the venue with you to discuss and visualise your décor; will take time to source the best quality blooms and foliage to meet your vision. They may also be prepared to be hands-on on the day to help out when the setting up is over, like pinning on buttonholes, staying to move arrangements from the ceremony to reception and so on.

And of course, there is a price tag. You get what you pay for!

So what if the deal is heavily discounted or very low in comparison with others? Consider this ….

Wedding suppliers are people who have bills to pay. If their offer is very low, are they actually paying themselves what they are worth? All the pictures in social media, the portfolio photos, may be lovely to look at – but are they real?

Don’t be afraid to question the low price and the quality of what will be delivered.

Check references, experience and examples of their work.

And actually, the same applies to those high end quotes.  What exactly are you paying for?  Is there a contract that protects your rights as well as theirs? How personal is their service?  Will you be dealing with a specific person? Are there any hidden costs that are not mentioned in the quote – like VAT and travel expenses? How do they justify their prices?

Most importantly, take the time to talk to your suppliers in person.

With Zoom and Teams, there is no reason why you can’t have a face-to-face chat in some way, if meeting up isn’t practical. The ‘know, like and trust’ aspect of booking a supplier for the most important day of your life can’t be underplayed!

Trust me, although there are bad ‘uns out there, (as there are in any industry), the overwhelming majority of suppliers are decent hard working people who want to give you the most magical day.

Take time to get the best deal for you with the best available suppliers.  But honestly – if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
