10 Essential Questions to ask wedding suppliers

At the start of planning your wedding, it’s a good idea to have an idea of who and what to ask. So I’ve put together a list of the 10 essential questions to ask wedding suppliers. For sure, some questions are a no-brainer …. But others might not occur to you.

Of course there will be specific questions you will need to ask for each supplier, but these essential questions will start you off.  (Bear with me if they seem obvious at first…)

1. Are you available on our date? (I’ve chatted to lots of couples who don’t ask …. )
2. What is your deposit? When is it payable? Is it refundable? 
3. Do you have a contract? (Every supplier should have a contract, with clear unambiguous terms)
4. What is your cancellation/refund policy?  (Stuff happens – as we all know!)
5. What does your price include?
6. What is NOT included? Like VAT, delivery, labour, extra time spent at the ceremony and venue etc.
7. When do we need to book?  (Some suppliers get booked up really early)
8. What arrangements will you make to ensure our wedding is covered in the event of accident or illness? (Staff shortages are a common tale post-pandemic – you need to feel confident your supplier has got contingencies covered)
9. How many weddings will you be dealing with on our date? (Will you get their full attention?)
10. How long have you been a wedding supplier? (for example, a photographer who has only ever done portrait photography may not be the best choice for your wedding)

Some top tips for you …

If you can, it’s always a good idea to interview 2 or 3 suppliers for each aspect of your wedding. You can then make an informed choice. Do you feel confident that they will do what they promise?  Do you like them?  Don’t automatically settle for the cheapest offer. Less money may not mean equally good service.  Always check references, talk to friends and family for recommendations.
