Everyone loves a story, right? And everyone has a story to tell …. This blog will show you how you can tell your Love Story in flowers.

Let’s start with you

Are you Wild Rose?  Free and lovely, you are openhearted, build trust, and have a courageous interest in life.

Are you Romantic Rosemary?  Spiritual, trusting, compassionate

Are you Dancing Daisy? Playful, light hearted, your sunny personality lights up the room.

What’s your life story….

Where did you play as a child?  What flowers do you remember from your mother’s garden? What were your gran’s favourite flowers? (My grandkids always comment on how my garden is full of lavender and roses)

When my daughter was a little girl, we went to visit my parents in South Africa.  It was in the summer when hundreds of strelizias were blooming in the wild.  She never forgot it – and for her wedding, she had strelizias on her top table.  They were an important symbol for her about her roots in southern Africa.

When I got married, I had orchids in my bouquet.  And for every anniversary, my birthday and the births of our children, my lovely hubby would find orchids to give me.  They have a very special place in my heart.  (I’m rubbish at growing them, though.  I either kill them with kindness or neglect!)

Creating your bouquet….

I absolutely love finding the meaning of the flowers chosen by a bride. What better way to tell your story, to show your love for each other and to celebrate everything that you are.

Your flowers should first reflect the sort of person you are. We all have different shades of personality and this can be shown in the flowers you choose.  Sometimes, sticking to a set colour palette, like the themes you see on Pinterest, can be too limiting.  Don’t worry about thinking beyond your colour scheme …. Nature doesn’t limit herself, so why should you?

So if you are Wild Rose, you could have a mix of red roses, blousy soft peach peonies, cheery daisies and blue scabious, with lots of lush free greenery like trailing ivy and eucalyptus.

And their meanings? Red roses – true love; Peonies – honour; Daisies – Innocence, purity; Scabious – love, purity and peace; Ivy – faithfulness; Eucalyptus – protection and abundance.

Romantic Rosemary might have a classic gentle bouquet of pink roses, dahlias, ranunculus and hydrangeas. Their meanings are just lovely: Pink roses – passion, joy of life; Dahlias – a commitment and bond that lasts forever; Hydrangeas – Purity and grace; Ranunculus – radiance.

And Dancing Daisy?  How about the jewelled colours of cosmos, dahlias, daisies, and blue scabious, all combined to make a sunny happy bouquet, finished with sprigs of feathery dill.

This is one of the beautiful pictures in a really lovely book that was given to me by an old friend. ‘Vintage Wedding Flowers’ by Vic Brotherson

Cosmos – include beauty, balance, modesty, joy; Dahlias – a commitment and bond that lasts forever; Daisies – Innocence, purity; Scabious – pure love, radiating warmth, purity and peace; Dill – brings happiness and wealth, and engenders passion. (According to www.funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk it also keeps witches away. That has to be a good thing, right?!)

Your love’s flowers

And of course, the flowers that you both treasure will be integral to your wedding.

When you met your fiancé, what was the first bunch of flowers he gave you?  (Please tell me he has given you flowers!)  Does he still find the same flowers?  Or in your life together have you found different flowers that you both love?

A couple I met recently said they wanted lilies included in their flowers as they were the favourites of a much loved relative who had died. How lovely is that!

See what I mean?  Everyone has a story ….

So, what will you choose for your love story’s flowers? I’d love to know! And, of course, I’d love to chat to you about creating the most beautiful arrangements to make your story and your vision a reality.
