Where did you play as a child?  What flowers do you remember from your mother’s garden? What were your gran’s favourite flowers? (My grandkids always comment on how my garden is full of lavender and roses)

Is there a particular colour that you love, or that has special meaning for you?

A couple I met recently said they wanted orange florals in memory of a much loved relative who had died. How lovely is that!

Of course, the flowers that you both treasure will be integral to your wedding.

What was the first bunch of flowers your lover gave you?  Do they still find the same flowers?  Or in your life together have you found different flowers that you both love? Perhaps, it’s not flowers that draw you together. It could be woodland walks, beautiful trees, or wide open plains with breathtaking views.  The possibilities are endless.

And there isn’t a rule book that says you have to have florals for your wedding. Especially if flowers make you sneeze! Imagine lush foliage, living plants, arrangements using dried grasses and foliage. Think beyond the norm and the accepted traditions. Your wedding florals can be both exciting and highly personal to you. Which is what they should be!

Lots of couples trawl through Pinterest for the perfect look.  (I’m not knocking Pinterest, it’s a great resource for inspiration) But so many of those images show broadly similar concepts. Lovely, yes, but not particularly original.

You can feel free to do your own thing (that might crash Pinterest preconceived ideas!)  Nature doesn’t limit herself, so why should you? Work with your florist, share your ideas, take their advice as to practicalities, seasonal pressures, and so on, and together you can make magic!

It might be worth considering an event stylist, too.  Someone who will happily think outside the box and design your wedding décor in a new and unique way.

Silk flowers are incredibly versatile. They can be reused and repurposed long after the excitement of the big day has faded. The variety, colour and realism are amazing! Price points vary widely, so don’t assume that they will cost less than fresh flowers.  For example, luxury flowers made in Holland by Silk-Ka are a lot more expensive than anything you might find in budget outlets. Think about what is important to you. Is it just cost? Or are you looking for beauty, exquisite quality and colour that will bring you joy for decades?

The silk flowers I choose are top quality, and although they are not in the ultra -luxury league, I’m watching the luxury silk flower producer in Holland with interest. Technology and manufacturing processes are changing and improving all the time. ‘Middle market’ producers will, I’m sure, catch up and help keep prices within reach.
