Why is booking a makeup artist essential for your wedding?

I am delighted to introduce you to the lovely Komal of KokoBeautyUK who is an amazing hair and makeup artist. She will explain why you need a make-up artist – essential for your wedding!

Like anything else for your wedding, your hair and makeup contribute to your overall look and feel on your wedding day. You have put in so much thought about your outfit, jewellery and bouquet! Beautiful hair and makeup will finish off your bridal look and make you feel fabulous.

All eyes are usually on the bride with hundreds of photos and video focus! When you have makeup professionally done, it makes a difference to the quality of the images. Very different compared with “day to day” makeup.

Bridal makeup can also give you a great confidence boost. Chances are you will be tired from the planning and excitement. This shows in your skin and features.

My top tips for brides

Find an artist whose style you like.

You still want to feel confident and like yourself, so make sure you look at different artists’ portfolios. In particular, look out for brides with a similar skin tone, and similar hair colour or length and style.

Be realistic with expectations.

The best way to choose a look you want is by checking the artist’s own work.  This will keep the expectations of both parties in line with the result.

Get a trial and trust your artist’s advice

I always encourage brides for a trial. What you want and what suits you might be two different things. Trials are important because they can rule out anything you are not sure about. When you have had your trial, try to keep the makeup on all day and see how it wears through the day and in photographs.  Give your artist feedback if it starts to get shiny or you don’t feel the coverage looks good enough in pictures.  She can reflect on this when the day comes.

Thinking outside the box and moving out of your comfort zone

Although most brides will opt for a classic look, not everyone wears makeup on a day to day basis. It is important to trust your artist’s skill. She may try something you may not think of. This is why I encourage trials and looking back on what you have decided. I will always carry a camera so the bride can see how she looks in photographs. Bridal makeup is a lot heavier than daily wear. And it should be, as it is aimed for photography and an audience which is not often close up to the bride.

Many brides are also now changing into a “second look” for the evening, which I love. It isn’t just about a change in a more relaxed dress. It could even be a more daring makeup or hair style which can be fun for your evening party.

About me

My journey began in 2012. I created Koko Beauty after years of interest in hair and makeup. This led me to gain a BABTAC qualification to cover both fields. I believe each client should be treated as an individual. Each person has beautiful features which can be enhanced.  My aim is to make my clients feel like a better version of themselves, rather than look and feel like a complete stranger.  I believe in working with the real woman and not only models.
